Sioux Falls-based Hegg Cos. is adding a Sioux City, Iowa, hotel to its portfolio.
Hegg is buying the Hilton Garden Inn Sioux City, which is along the Missouri River and includes Bev’s on the River restaurant, the attached marina and the Jolly Roger, which is an outdoor riverside tiki bar.
The hotel opened in 2008 and sits on 14.5 acres.
At 123 rooms, it is slightly smaller than the Hilton Garden Inn Downtown in Sioux Falls, which Hegg co-owns, and includes a 300-seat dining room.
“It plays very well into our portfolio,” said Steve Westra, Hegg’s chief operating officer, calling it the first of several large upcoming acquisitions.
Hegg also owns hotels in Omaha and Lincoln, Neb., making Sioux City a good fit operationally, he said.
The acquisition brings Hegg’s hotel portfolio to seven properties in South Dakota, Iowa and Nebraska. The company has sold its hotels in North Dakota and Wyoming.
“This is a strategic acquisition for our hospitality division, being the fifth owned-and-operated hotel, and our third Hilton Garden Inn,” said Paul Hegg, president of Hegg. “The riverside location creates a unique hospitality and dining experience. The vision and legacy created by Larry Miller and Roger Miller, the original developers of the project, has made this property the go-to destination in Sioux City. Working with Hilton, we plan to build upon this history and will be announcing several new renovations to the property as part of Hilton’s brand requirements.”
The hotel includes four meeting rooms that can accommodate up to 400 and a new patio area that can hold an additional 150. Other amenities include an indoor swimming pool and whirlpool, a 24-hour business center and a 24-hour fitness center.
The hotel will continue operating as a Hilton Garden Inn and will be operated by Hegg Hospitality Management, LLC, under franchise from Hilton.
